Free Bijou screenings for UI students
The University of Iowa’s student-run Bijou Film Board presents independent, international, and classic cinema. Its website states that Bijou programming is free for UI students. That does not mean every movie showing at FilmScene is free: look for a Bijou screening and confirm its admission instructions.
Explore Bijou’s programs and current listings. If you aren’t a UI student, check the specific event’s public ticket price rather than assuming the student offer applies.
FilmScene’s $4 Fridays: what to know
Bijou’s published offer covers new-release screenings after 8 p.m. on Fridays during the academic school year, at either FilmScene location. The instructions say to buy in person and show your student ID to receive the $4 ticket.
- Check the eligible screening. Use the current program information before choosing a film.
- Bring your student ID. The published offer requires it at the counter.
- Buy at the box office. Don’t assume the same discount appears in online checkout.
- Check the location. Your screening may be at the Chauncey or the Ped Mall.

Going on a different day?
FilmScene publishes separate student ticket information and its own membership options. Compare the current price for your chosen screening with the terms of any membership before buying. A discounted ticket, a cinema membership, and a monthly movie subscription are different things.
